A lot of blogs have this mentality that if you can't get a tricked out $2k+ rifle of some sort then you can't survive...but the only gun that will help you is the one you actually have! If that happens to be a lowly mosin and .22...so be it.

With that said I think that you should at least try to get something a little nicer...I won't argue what that will be as it's personal, but maybe a military style MBR like a FAL or HK91. Yeah, it's gonna cost money to buy and supply with ammo...Think of it in the same way you would think about buying a major appliance, or a vehicle. It's expensive...but you'll be glad you have it!

Also I think a reliable sidearm is just as important as a big rifle. Despite what everyone thinks about what the PAW will be like ('everyone will be openly armed all the time' and such) a concealed weapon will probably be important, much moreso than now.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-291961545993258201.post-74857779711545475152009-11-27T23:32:11.005-08:002009-11-27T23:32:11.005-08:00Thank you every one for stopping by and commenting...Thank you every one for stopping by and commenting on this post.

You all have valuable input and I thank you for contributing.

To the gentleman who posted before myself I have only this to say.

I have no problem with others promoting their websites on my blog as long as they fall within the survival mindset.

I will not allow Racist or other UGLY survivalist to use my website for promotion of their agenda.

You need to clarify your position or I will delete your comments. Even then I believe one would be well advised to purchase quality new or gently used weapons because they are worth it and your life may well depend on them. Not everyone can readily purchase a brand new Springfield M1A and an HK USP (I don't own either) however a used Mini 14 and a used Ruger .357mag are probably realistic.

Buy common caliber guns from popular manufacturers, you really won't regret it, they are common and popular for very good reasons.

Garands are neat pieces of history but not much gun for the money. You can get an AR or an AK or a CEMTE for around the same money and they are all newer more modern, superior weapons.Ryanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09612373437033635765noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-291961545993258201.post-18424797311010932792009-11-16T05:38:08.238-08:002009-11-16T05:38:08.238-08:00Durn, forgot to add (anon 5:34) - great .22 bolt r...Durn, forgot to add (anon 5:34) - great .22 bolt rifle is CZ 452. Made like rifles USED TO BE, very accurate full sized rifle. The longest barrelled model (Ultralux) has a 28 3/4" barrel, which used with standard velocity rounds, is very very quiet. Not suppressed - but it sure does sound so, kinda sorta. Just sayin' is all.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-291961545993258201.post-83063363058387606822009-11-16T05:34:24.416-08:002009-11-16T05:34:24.416-08:00Thank you for a very good read - lots of great inf...Thank you for a very good read - lots of great information to absorb and think about. I managed to pick one up for a nice price over a year ago, and have not regretted it a bit. Made in India, my rifle happily accepts military and commercial .308 ammunition, and the 10 or 20 round clips make it faster than the Moisan-Nagants.
Garands just cost too much for my wallet.tweellhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08164718561825615886noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-291961545993258201.post-45326839894783728942009-11-15T10:22:56.366-08:002009-11-15T10:22:56.366-08:00The best article I've read on this subject.

Stock your recommended amounts of ammo, and add loading supplies, cases, primers, powder and casting moulds, lead, wheel weights and tin, the latter three metals all precious metals.
Don't worry about the price, it's later than you think.
Mountain riflemanAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-291961545993258201.post-90511279679382183922009-11-15T05:42:59.066-08:002009-11-15T05:42:59.066-08:00Great info there, Scout.
