All The News That's Fit To Print: Saturday Edition, 10/29/2011

A little something new I may continue to do.

Gun ownership in U.S. soars: Gallup
Gun-ownership levels in the U.S. have risen sharply over the past few years, reaching their highest point since 1993.

CNBC Online Poll, 69% Support Returning to the Gold Standard
In an unscientific but intriguing online poll, CNBC discovers that in over 1,000 votes cast, 69% support a return to the gold standard, only 25% oppose.

Why is George Soros Selling Off His Gold and Silver?
Recently, gold and silver have taken a hit. Gold was down $39 since Monday and “U.S. silver futures have lost 14 percent over the past four sessions, wiping out gains from the previous three weeks that took the price to a 31-year top just below $50 on April 25,

Sell high, buy low. Scare everyone into selling and the price drops. Take your profits and buy it all back when it hits the bottom. Nothing to look at here, just market manipulation. S.S.

Watch out for China’s ‘freak’ economy
The really ominous news right now?
China.
It’s been the juggernaut carrying us all year. But Albert Edwards at SG Securities says the world’s second biggest economy is a “freak” and it’s starting to go berzerk.

Tijuana On The Sky

Tijuana On The Sky, Mexi-Scum Hellhole

City of Monroe, Snohomish County, Washington. (for the DHS, DEA and FBI readers)
I was talking with a work acquaintance the other day and he was telling me how bad it was in this town. He said MS-13 was there, as well as the Mexican Mafia. He also said there was a white gang which painted its faces, but he had no more info than that to share about them. He said that they had not bothered them at all.

He said that the Mafia kids run the school. They are never disciplined for any acts of violence. He knows personally, as a girl that lives with his family was accosted by their leader. Evidently he said something rude to her and she told him to fuck off. He didn't like this "disrespect" and proceeded to slap her. She was pulled from school and the principal and teacher were informed of the incident. Nothing was done or said to the perp. These kids all drive BMW's and hot-rod rice burners to school.

He told me of 2 other boys who were accosted while smoking some weed in one of the parks. One of them is in the hospital from the beating he received when they told him to give them the weed, and he refused. They hit him in the head with a gun butt (handgun?). There were 8 of them.

His son was walking home one evening and 4 Mexi-Scum walking down the street yelled at him. He ran home. He was shaking from fear when he got there. He also said that there was a bad Heroin and Ecstasy problem in town, and that 3 kids had died from an overdose recently.

The police seem to be on the dole, for they do nothing to clean up the slime ridden streets. That means that City Hall must be involved as well. My associate says they plan on moving, soon!

Another acquaintance that has retired from work stopped in and talked with me awhile. His wife, who has recently retired, was working at the local hospital. It seems that the unfunded mandate that all who show up at the emergency room must be treated, will soon force the hospital to close its doors. Illegal immigrants are straining the healthcare system so badly here in WA state that the Governor is having to slash the budget for those programs that help the poor! It was not stated that that was the cause, but you know it is when no matter where you go, you hear a foreign language being spoken and every sign has a second language posted below the English version!

What does it take for Citizens of the US to take back their cities, their home towns? Does it take a home invasion while you are away at work that leaves your family dead or hospitalized? What would push you over the edge? Quit hiding behind keyboard bravado and do what needs to be done.

As long as these Mexi-Scum can walk unafraid down our streets, the legal citizens will be left to cower in fear and scurry away from contact with them.

Check.

It's your move!

Clarification: Mexi-Scum is in reference to the gang members and mexican mafia, not the hard working mexican families which are here legally, or those here illegally but not part of the problem referred to above. I work with several mexican guys who followed the rules and are here legally. They are great guys and hard workers. I have no problem with those who follow the rules.

Filling Your Plate: Part IV - Crock Pot Recipes

I love my crockpots. How else can you reliably toss your ingredients in a pot, turn it on and come back to a fully cooked dinner 8 hours later? Of course if the power goes out you will have some issues. But those issues will most likely encompass items other than just your crockpot and dinner!

I currently have 3 large ones (4 qt+) and 1 smaller 1 quart that I have had for years. It only has the low setting by design. They are used frequently and and help make dinner easier on me after a long day at work. An idea that I have been toying with is to freeze all the uncooked ingredients together with the seasonings ahead of time to make it even faster to put together a meal. Spend a Sunday afternoon combining stuff and you are good to go for a week or longer.

In an ironic twist, President Obama's Teleprompter had an unscripted moment when it was apparently stolen along with a stash of other audio equipment inside a truck awaiting the president's arrival in Virginia.

The Defense Information System Agency on Tuesday confirmed the theft of the truck, which was later recovered, but said no sensitive information was lost.

Filling Your Plate: Part III - Meal Planning

Meal Planning

Meal planning can be intimidating for beginning cooks. Take a few minutes to organize your recipes and read through this article to help you begin, and soon meal planning will be second nature.

On January 12, 2005, the FDA released a New Food Pyramid, with some changes. The changes aren't significant, except for stressing exercise and increasing the number of fruits, vegetables, and whole grains that you should eat every day.

Plan meals to meet your family's nutrition needs. The old way of planning meals was the Basic Four: Meats, Vegetables and Fruit, Grains, and Dairy. After many nutrition studies, the USDA has created an updated Food Pyramid that should be used as a guideline. This graphic is courtesy of the U.S. Department of Agriculture and the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. The range helps the Pyramid fit into anyone's caloric needs. Filling Your Plate: Part II - The Pantry

Organizing Your Pantry:

Step 1: The Pantry
Your Personal Mise en Place
(meese on ploss, "a place for everything")

Here’s another term for your vocabulary list: mise en place. (It rhymes with "peas on floss") Sounds fancy, doesn’t it? It’s a French phrase that describes having a place for everything before you begin cooking. For restaurant chefs, mise en place means having sauces simmering, cheeses shredded, herbs chopped, and the salt cellar exactly within arm’s reach. For the home cook, it means being organized and knowing what ingredients you have on hand so you can make many recipes with ease in a moment's notice.

Step 2: Fill Your Freezer

Step 3: Refrigerator Basics

Step 4: Put It All Together

Simple Meals From Your Pantry

During the winter, I try to keep my pantry well stocked with staple ingredients so even if I can't get to the store, I can still pull together a hot and hearty meal. And I fall back on old favorites, including one I used to make a lot when I was just married and money was tight: Mac and cheese revved up with some sauteed onion and garlic, and a bit of Dijon mustard. Try it - it's really good!

Filling Your Plate: Part I - Getting Started

Are you all thumbs in the kitchen?
When it comes time for meals, are you at a loss what to make?
Does grocery shopping for meals leave you dazed and confused?
What about stocking a pantry if you don't have one. Where do you start?
New to Prepping and not sure what foods to stock up on?
Newly divorced and not used to cooking for yourself?
Save money by not eating out at fast food joints and restaurants.

As a single parent I struggle at times trying to make appetizing foods for my family, as well as being tired out at the end of the day. I am always on the lookout for a good recipe, especially if it can be made from the foods I have chosen to store.

Getting a recipe list also shows me holes in my storage program. Having a good selection of recipes will help reduce appetite fatigue and keep everyone happy!

Here are some helpful articles gleaned from About.com

Fruits and Vegetables Preparation Guide: Fruits A-Z, Veggies A-Z

It's my ardent belief, backed up by lots of scientific research, that the more fruits and vegetables you eat the healthier you will be. Did you know that there are compounds called phytochemicals and antioxidants in fresh fruits and vegetables that help reduce your risk of disease? Taking supplements with these nutrients doesn't work as well as eating fresh produce. There are so many micronutrients, phytochemicals, and compounds in fruits and vegetables that food scientists are discovering every day.
