Readers Rifles

I have seen an increase in the amount of traffic to the blog post titled "The Marlin Model 60 Survival Rifle and have found it interesting that so many people have an interest in the Model 60. Seeing all this traffic, I thought that I would like to see how other people have dressed up their ladies! (or gents if you are a female!)

So, I am sending out a request for pictures of your Model 60's, complete with a description of your additions and if you have a unusual mod, please include the URL if purchased over the internet.

I know there is a lot of interest in our often overlooked but not forgotten choice in .22lr firearms, and accesories are much more difficult to find than those for the detachable magazine fed Ruger 10/22.

Also, I think a dream list would be nice, so that if any representatives of the aftermarket addon manufacturers happen across this blog, they will see the market demand for new innovations!

So, if you would like to show off your Lady, send me your info and pics to my email listed in my profile.

Happy Shooting!

  1. I have model 5, but it's identical to the model 60.

I checked and the parts are interchangeable. The manual I got from Marlin was a model 60 with a sticker over the 60 that said model 5.

Can anyone tell me the difference?

    I love my model 5/60.

  2. How long ago did you buy it? Did you buy it new? I see no reference to it on the Marlin website. I will research it more and see what I can find.

  3. Alas, mine is a stocker, and will likely remain that way. It is cool to see what can be done with those little rifles tho....

  4. I prefer to hunt with CCI 22 CB Long, or Remington 22LR subsonics. My Marlin 25 puts three Remingt9n subsonics in 3/4" at 50 yards from bench. (The 1:16 twist barrel shoots Aguila SSS 60 gr into a pie plate group at 50 yards. Aguila SSS groups best from 1:9 twist barrel.)

After you read Tossing Rocks you may consider using subsonics. http://www.jesseshunting.com/articles/guns/category16/66.html

I quote from Mel Tappan Survival Guns page 177
"..in a barrel 22" or longer, the CCI CB cap is almost totally silent. At a distance of 8 feet from the muzzle of my 24" Anschutz, the sound level from firing was only 9db, and at 15 feet it was totally inaudible. Not only does this lack of noise make the CCI long CB caps desireable for indoor or backyard target practice, it makes them virtually a necessity for survival use should you ever need to do some shooting without attracting attention or alarming game in the neighborhood."

    I saw a CZ452 Lux 28.6" barrel 22LR the other day.

I wonder how quiet that is with subsonics.

PS squirrels and other greedy little freeloaders will visit your feeder often. They will be there when you need them for the soup pot.
